In the beginning
South Normington Site…
A lovely secluded site in South Normington was where The Island Project first began it’s service and stayed there for 18 months. The Island made good tracks and decided to move to another, bigger site in Breaston.
The Island Project today
2012 – Present
The Island Project is now located on an ideal patch of land, almost 4 acres in size, with converted stables, a portacabin and a static caravan making up querky learning areas. The site has a large field which is divided into different sections for animals and gardening.
All amenities are catered for at The Island’s latest site such as toilets, running water, car parking and hard standing.
Reach out for fade out: The Projects £20,000 appeal
As a not for profit company, raising money at The Island Project is a natural process. The project receives no government funding, relying solely on placement referrals to fund the service. This means The Island Project doesn’t sit on a pot of gold!
A recent change in payment processes from some of our placing schools (Big “thank you” to the schools who pay on time!) has led to The Island Project facing financial hardship, causing major cash flow problems.
The knock-on effect has ultimately meant the release of two support staff. Not because business is bad, the project is full with a waiting list of students but because staff salaries cannot be guaranteed or paid in full, on time. All due to none-payment of invoices, extremely late payments and unfair legislation that does not care if you are a tiny company or a huge enterprise. All of which leaves us in an unsettled position, which could see the service stop operating.

To help the project continue it’s not for profit service which helps some of Derby’s and Nottingham’s most complex and vulnerable young people, please share, like, contribute and attend fundraising events!
