The Island Project -Rabbit Bedding
Straw
Some animals like Donkeys will eat straw as it’s the closest type of food to what they would eat in the wild. Straw is high in fibre and low in sugar making it nutritious while still ideal for curbing a large animals appetite without the calories.
Straw also makes ideal bedding for most animals at the farm. The project uses a range of beddings for different animals, such as bark for larger animals in stables and shredded paper for Chicken laying boxes. All bedding is composted into a large anaerobic compost pile.
Hay
Hay, on the other hand, is higher in proteins and other nutrients to keep a wide range of animals fed and healthy. The project uses hay as well as paid for animal feed to help ensure our animals receive a balanced diet.
On average, The Island Project goes through approximately one giant bale of hay and straw every two weeks.
